I recently sold a vehicle privately and even though I gave all the required documentation to the buyer the Registering Authority (Post Office in PE) insisted that I accompany the buyer in order to do the transfer of ownership. Is this a general rule?

Sam If the seller submits a Change of Ownership form then the buyer is obliged to register within 21 days, after which penalties take effect. Otherwise with Proof of Address, Certificate of Registration, Roadworthy, and Id, Plus Photo-Copies of Address and Id, as well as the completed Registration Form, you should be able to register, though some Authorities will require that you have a signed Change Of Ownership from the seller too. It is not unheard of that they chop and change their requirements, and that they are not consistent. Consult your local Roadworthy Center, they'r in the know

On a different topic: For the purpose of selling your car if your Motor Vehicle License has expired, you need not do a Roadworthy if you do not want to, but you will need to get your Motor Vehicle License fees up to date. You go to your Roadworthy Center and you tell them You want to License Without Roadworthy or License Disc, you just want to pay the outstanding License Fees, and they will do that for you and you will get a Formal Document that carries a title like Receipt for License Fees. When you need to sell the car, you cannot sell if your vehicle's license has lapsed. In South Africa we do not have the MOT, we have a Roadworthy that you have to do when you register the car. And insurance is not obligatory. Point is, you do not have to do Roadworthy when you sell, but the buyer may insist that you do, because he would not be able to license before he himself has submitted a Roadworthy Certificate together with the other documents required when he asks a Roadworthy Agency or Queuing Service to Register the vehicle for him.

Hi all, We would highly recommend selling a vehicle through webuycars. We were referred to them by our neighbour, who also simply could not believe how quick and easy his car was sold. These guys move at the speed of light! We were fortunate to have dealt with Dirk, Faan, Ricky and Ernest at webuycars over a two-day period. During this same period, we put in a call to a competitor in order to gauge the service (and obviously to get the best price). Webuycars have since (in two days) made an appraisal of the vehicle, took it for a test drive, transferred the funds, and collected the vehicle from us for resale. Meanwhile, we're still (two days later) waiting for their competitor to simply phone us back... Thank you everyone at webuycars! Your service is fast and highly professional - we will most definitely recommend you to everyone who is interested in selling a vehicle. Lastly - bear in mind that all of the above were done for us by webuycars, without us having to have stepped a foot out of our home. Thank you again! Regards, Ian

Sam Thank you for uploading the photos of our new premises. We are moving in as soon as we have power. It already looks a lot cleaner, and prettier. We hope to welcome you here personally whenever you are in Pretoria. Dirk

i would like to know if i could make change of ownership without a driving lisence. nonhlanhla | 29th November 2012 Nonhlanha To the best of my knowledge no Drivers-License is Required for you to do any of the Transactions involved with the Register and License of a Motor-Vehicle. Hope you come right. As far as the need for a Drivers-License is concerned I would need to emphasize that it is for your own safety and the safety of your Passengers and the safety of the people in the other cars, and for that reason, I have to urge you that if you are going to drive a car, it is vital that you pass the recommended safety-procedure, otherwise you could well end up dead soon, or worse - having killed the children of a Mommy taking them to school, and having to live with the guilt. So please do not take this lightly, it could potentially have grave consequences if you drive without a drivers-license. If this situation is because you are among many people who can drive but who can not read, I am sure if you speak to your closest Driving-School, there are ways around that too - legal ways. Please drive safely. Dirk Van Der Walt
