We cannot buy your vehicle without the valid registration certificate.

If the vehicle was financed, and the bank is still the Title Holder, we can request a duplicate registration certificate from the bank.

In the event that you are the Title Holder and no longer have the certificate you will need to request a duplicate certificate.

This is a relatively simple procedure and can be done at your local roadworthy or license and registration office.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • A certified copy of your ID
  • Proof of residence
  • Any information on the vehicle, such as old license papers etc.

At the registration office you will need to complete a DRC (APPLICATION FOR DUPLICATE REGISTRATION/DEREGISTRATION CERTIFICATE IN RESPECT OF MOTOR VEHICLE) and a DCT (DECLARATION IN RESPECT OF LOST DOCUMENTS) form.

These need to be submitted along with the items listed above.

The average waiting period for duplicate registration document is ten days, depending on the specific licensing authority.

Applying for a Duplicate Certificate of Registration of Motor Vehicle is potentially one of the most frustrating and challenging things you may wish to do in this life. But this only applies to situations where there is a deviation in one of the core-aspects of the process. For the greater part, where it involves the normal transaction where you have just lost the document, it is fairly easy though time-consuming. The main frustration comes in if you are trying to apply for a duplicate where the vehicle is in actual fact registered on the name of someone else still, even though you have owned it for some time. For this reason it is crucial that you do not buy a car in the first place without all the correct paperwork and procedures in place, and if in doubt, ask your local Roadworthy Center, or write to me here for that matter.
